Our Story

The Picturehouse was opened on 2 May 1997 by Sir Ben Kingsley, following a petition signed by more than 2000 people asking for a local cinema. Since then the Picturehouse has become a popular part of the community. Stratford-upon-Avon is steeped in the history of Shakespeare and is proud to be home to the RSC. With the advent of digital and satellite technology for cinema, the townsfolk are now also in a position to enjoy live performances from the likes of the New York Met Opera, Glyndebourne, the National Theatre and the Bolshoi Ballet.
